What Should I Expect to Learn from Your Basic Obedience Class?

Our training philosophy is quite different from most.  We strive to bridge the communication gap between dogs and their people.  Our beginners’ course is packed to the brim with information as well as obedience commands.  To us, a basic training program should do more than teach “sit” and “stay”.  You should come away from the classes with a better understanding of your canine companion as well as a set of tools to help your dog display good manners in a variety of situations.

The commands covered in our Basic Obedience course:

  • Recall – returning when called
  • Loose leash walking
  • Heel
  • Stay inside (not run out an open door)
  • Place – a stay type command
  • Sit
  • Stay
  • Down

Behaviors we typically address in our Basic Obedience course:

  • Housebreaking
  • Mouthing – non-aggressive biting
  • Crate Training – if desired
  • Greeting guests
  • Chewing the leash
  • Chewing household items
  • Garbage picking
  • Digging holes in the yard
  • Eliminating in only one area of the yard
  • Wrestling/rough play
  • ANY non-aggressive behavior

Since we use the dog’s natural instincts and behaviors in our favor, results happen fast.  Success is defined by the mutual understanding of each species while the owner sets clear expectations of behavior for their pack.  The end result of that success is a well-behaved dog with a personality of their own.
